Cardiff and Vale College crowned College of the Year at prestigious business awards for the second consecutive year
Cardiff and Vale College has been crowned College of the Year at Insider magazine’s prestigious Business and Education Partnership Awards.
The College has now won this award for the second year running, winning College of the Year in 2015 as well. The BEPA Awards celebrate collaborative work between universities, colleges and companies in Wales to recognise initiatives that benefit the Welsh economy.
CAVC’s Deputy Principal Kay Martin, Vice Principal Mary Kent, Dean of Work Based Learning Andy Whitcombe, Director of College Business Development Paul Kift and Business Development Consultant Hannah Lloyd represented the College at the event, which brought together universities and colleges from across Wales alongside global businesses.
The College was shortlisted for five awards – more than any other Further Education institution in the country: New Process for its employer advisory boards, People Development for its apprenticeship with Deloitte, Economic Impact for its retail team, Partnership for its work with the Principality Building Society and College of the Year. The College also won the Economic Impact award for the innovative work carried out by its retail team, with judges praising the “good local and community impact as well as sound economic sense”.
The College of the Year Award recognises the work Cardiff and Vale College puts in to foster long-term partnerships with employers including Admiral Group, MotoNovo Finance and GE Aviation. One judge praised the College’s “range of sector-leading initiatives”.
CAVC engages with thousands of employers each year to ensure it offers training and education that will suit their needs, filling skills gaps and producing more employable students.
Mary Kent, the College’s Vice Principal for Commercial Business Development, said: “It is an honour to be able to accept the College of the Year Award once, but to win it for two years in a row is fantastic. It is testament to all of the hard work done at the College to ensure that partnership working with employers is at the heart what we offer.
“Everyone benefits from strong partnership work in Further Education. The College gains income and industry experience, while industry benefits from employees with the right skills to boost the economy and support the community.”
CAVC Deputy Principal Kay Martin said: “The College is extremely proud to accept these awards. Collaboration with employers is extremely important for both colleges and industry alike.
“CAVC staff recognise that and really strive to perform at an outstanding and sector-leading level. These awards reflect that hard work in serving the Cardiff and Vale region’s businesses and communities.”
