Double success for College plastering students

The College of North West London’s plastering department is celebrating two major successes.

Earlier in November, the College received two awards for the quality of its training at the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers’ annual awards.

At the ceremony in the Plaisterers’ Hall in the City of London, CNWL’s Plastering department was recognised as the best training facility in London and the Home Counties. The College was also named as runner up in the Sir John Pirie Cup, which recognises student success rates.

Tim Weston (pictured third from left), the College’s section manager for Construction, said: “The Worshipful Company of Plaisterers is a highly-respected professional trade guild with centuries of tradition. These awards join many others in our own history and we are proud and honoured to receive them.”

Tim received the awards from The Rt. Hon. the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley and officials from the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers.

The awards came just a week before two recent graduates of the College’s Plastering department headed off to the finals of Worldskills UK, where they competed against another six of the best plastering students from across the country at the Skills Show 2017 in Birmingham from 16-19 Nov.

Antonio Cupaiolo (pictured left) won a Bronze medal. Fellow CNWL student Gregg Gordon (pictured right) was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ status.

Worldskills UK national finals involve the best eight students from across the country (picked after a series of regional heats) competing in their specialist discipline.

Antonio and Gregg both won medals at the ‘Skillbuild’ London and South East regional heats back in May 2017, and subsequently qualified for the finals as being among the top 8 point scorers across the country. They had both studied level 1, 2 and 3 plastering at the College before leaving in June 2017 to enter full time employment in the industry.

The College also had a finalist in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning contest. Conor Green, winner of the ‘Skillfridge’ London regional heat, finished outside of the medal positions but can still be incredibly proud to be among the top eight students in the country.
