From education to employment

Experts gather for education and skills focused conference

7/7 Survivor, Paralympian and Inspirational Speaker, Martine Wright MBE

Over 300 UK based sector representatives will have the opportunity to share ideas and learn from education and skills experts at an inspiring annual conference in Nottingham this week.

The “Building Resilience in Further Education and Skills” event, which is being held on Wednesday (16th May 2018) at the East Midlands Conference Centre, has been organised by leading sector membership body, the Skills and Education Group and aims to keep delegates up to date with relevant issues that are invaluable to their professions.

The conference will take a focused and honest look at the further education and skills sector, as it continues to demonstrate innovation and resilience, to meet the challenges of the economic and skills landscape. Visitors attending the event will have the opportunity to debate and discuss three key themes – apprenticeships, social mobility and technical and professional further education through a series of interactive talks and workshops.

Among other things, participants will have the chance to hear a captivating talk by 7/7 Survivor, Paralympian and Inspirational Speaker, Martine Wright MBE, who will share her experiences through a positive “Be Inspired” speech.

Martine has been on a remarkable journey. She was the most injured and last recovered survivor of the terrorist attacks in London on 7 July 2005. Martine lost both her legs the day after London was awarded the right to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. She courageously rebuilt her life and took up the sport of sitting volleyball, eventually earning a place at the Great Britain team and competing in front of a home crowd at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Paul Eeles 100x100Speaking ahead of the conference, Paul Eeles, Chief Executive at the Skills and Education Group said:

“We are extremely excited to be hosting and organising this conference which gives all attendees the great opportunity to gain a wider understanding of significant factors that shape the FE and skills system.

“The conference promises to provide a platform to learn, network and collaborate with senior civil servants from government departments and sector representatives through seminars and interactive workshops. It is also a chance to connect with other likeminded individuals from across the education and skills sector.”

The Building Resilience in Further Education and Skills event will be chaired by former Member of Parliament and Minister, Jonathan Shaw.

The conference is organised and hosted by the Skills and Education Group – under the patronage of ABC Awards, Certa and emfec.

Visitors can learn from and participate in 3 focused talks: Building Opportunities for All, Building a Professional Pathway for Technical Education and Developing World Class Apprenticeships fit for Industry.

Attendees can choose from one of six interactive workshops: Mental Health in Further Education, Gender and Skills – Women in Engineering, Shaping the Success of English and Maths, Technology for Help Assessors and Providers, Making Maths Matter and Technology for Inclusive Learning.
