From education to employment

Amazing Opportunity for Shipley College Floristry Students #AoCConf

Floristry displays welcome award winner.

Following on from providing 50 floral table decorations for the Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards, the next challenge for our part-time Level 3 Floristry students was to provide 65 table arrangements for the AoC Annual Conference and Exhibition, the biggest event in further education at the ICC Birmingham on the 20th & 21 November.

The displays consisting of lilies, roses, asparagus fern, clematis, skimmia and solidago were designed and prepared at the College in Saltaire and the students travelled down to Birmingham to prepare them for the event.

This was an amazing opportunity for our Level 3 students and will help build on their existing portfolios.

Floristry tutor Melanie Harvey explains ‘It is a fantastic opportunity for students to be involved in an event like this. Creating table displays are also an important part of the student’s assignments. They have to research, create a mood board, look at costings and produce materials lists to ensure it all runs smoothly.’

Student Mandy added, ‘An event like this gives you a purpose and shows what floristry can be used for. Preparing displays for such events also gives you confidence and really good experience.”
