Fareham College student beats hundreds to win WorldSkills UK Competition
A talented Fareham College student has won gold at the 2018 WorldSkills UK Competition, the national contest that asks British students and apprentices to prove they have what it takes to be named the very best in their skill.
Beating hundreds of other applicants, Fareham College students Chloe McDonald and Erin Boxall made it to the final eight in the ‘Media Make-up – Body’ category at the UK National final, held at the NEC Birmingham.
Chloe attended the final and won the competition with her stunning full body make-up design, inspired by the 100th anniversary of the Suffragette movement, which took four hours to apply. She was judged on her communications skills with the model, professionalism, health and safety, technical skills and overall impact of the design.
Chloe said of her achievement, “My tutors at Fareham College have been so supportive, I can’t thank them enough. The whole experience, and actually winning the competition, has been amazing and has given me the confidence to continue my studies at university and pursue my dream to work on period dramas specialising in hair and make-up.”
Chloe’s tutor, Lorna Apps-Woodland added, “I’m so proud of what Chloe has achieved. She worked really hard alongside her current studies to achieve this amazing result. I am very proud of what she has accomplished and I have no doubt that she will have a very successful career in the future.
Chloe completed her Diploma in Production Arts in the summer and is currently studying a Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art, Design and Media at Fareham College. Once she has completed her course, she hopes to study at either the London College of Fashion or Arts University Bournemouth.
