Barbering and Hairdressing students showcased at NI Championships

Barbering and Hairdressing students from South Eastern Regional College’s Bangor Campus have recently put their skills to the test at the NI Hairdressing Championships.   

Hosted at the Clayton Hotel, Belfast, the NI Hairdressing Championships attracted some of the finest hairdressers from across the country to compete in different events for both male and female clients.

The aspiring hairdressers competed in front of a panel of expert judges and spectators, other competitors and professionals from the industry under challenging time constraints. 

19-year-old Level 2 Barbering student Chloe Sloan from Bangor competed in the Junior Day Style and Junior Creative Colour competitions where she won first and second place, respectively. Chloe was also named as runner-up for Northern Ireland Junior Champion.

19-year-old Level 3 Hairdressing Apprentice Courtney Smith from Newtownards was runner up in the Junior Fantasy competition and adult learner Level 3 Hairdressing student Katie Mills from Donaghadee was awarded third place.

The judging panel, which consisted of prominent hairdressers and salon owners were extremely impressed with the stylish performances of each of the individuals who took part, despite the stringent time constraints that the competitors’ faced.

SERC Deputy Head of School for Performing and Creative Arts Martha Craig said “I am delighted that the students’ hard work and dedication has paid off. The talent and creativity on display is testament to the high-quality of teaching and learning that goes on within SERC.”
