NPTC Group of Colleges’ IT and computing students have stormed the finals of the Inspiring Skills Wales Coding and Web Design finals recently by taking Gold and Bronze.

Tech-savvy Zach Evans, 17, from Britton Ferry wowed the judges to finish in the top spot taking gold with his website design based on the Tour of Britain (Cycling). Zach is a current Level 3 IT & Computing student at Neath College was delighted with his win, he said ‘’this was not expected so I am very pleased.  It was a really good experience to work on a live brief, I loved it!!  Also, the support I received from our tutors was brilliant’’

Zach is hoping to study Computer Science at Swansea University, but at the moment is undecided on whether to specialise in web design or software development.

Joining him was fellow IT & Computing student Kia Sambrook who took bronze.  Kia was equally excited over her placing explaining ‘’the brief was difficult but I really enjoyed every minute and to finish third was an amazing feeling. I really believe skills competitions like this are brilliant for College students, I was able to work to a brief and experience a possible real work-life situation.’’

Kia is hoping to study Computer Science at Aberystwyth University, with a future career plan of moving in Software Design.

The Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales’s project delivers and promotes Skills Competitions in Wales on behalf of the Skills Champions Network. The Coding and Web design competition was hosted at Coleg Gwent and saw students from Colleges across Wales compete.
