Havering placed an impressive second out of fifteen entries in the borough competition at this year’s London New Year’s Day Parade, with The Mayor of Havering taking home £9000 for his mayoral charities (Havering Mind, Rainbow Trust and Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.)

The theme for this year’s parade was ‘London welcomes the world’ and thousands of people flocked to the capital’s streets to watch it – the 33rd of its kind.

Havering’s entry for the borough competition was an array of colour, creation and diversity. Store Room Theatre group put on an excellent performance which was accompanied by an impressive aeroplane float made by our very own construction students.

Head of Construction and Building Services Colin Seabrook praised the efforts of the College:

A number of students and staff from all trade areas took part in the design and construction of this year’s float. They were always enthusiastic and dedicated, with many of them working on the project outside of their normal class times.

I am extremely proud of all those involved in the design and construction and they should be proud of themselves having achieved such a high placing; the best position we have won in fact.

Our efforts have been recognised not only internally, but externally too; the Yellow Advertiser, for example, commended us in a recent article about the parade.

The parade was a very enjoyable day for all involved and we would like to thank all of our staff and students who contributed to it in one way or another.
