From education to employment

David Price OBE, Keynote Speaker at Further Education Good Practice Symposium

C-Learning has announced that David Price OBE, author of Amazon Best-Seller ‘OPEN: How We’ll Work, Live and Learn in The Future’ will be the opening keynote speaker at the Further Education Good Practice Symposium to be held at Birmingham Metropolitan College on the 19th June.

David Price OBE is an author, speaker and trainer. He delivers training and advisory work globally on some of the biggest challenges facing business, education and society. David has taught for 30 years across community, adult, and the wider School sectors, and has held senior leadership positions in Further Education.

OPENHis first book, ‘OPEN: How We’ll Work, Live and Learn in The Future’ has been an Amazon best-seller since its publication. The follow up ‘Learning To Be Open’ will be published in 2019. In 2017 David edited ‘Education Forward’, a collection of essays arguing for a more future-focused education system. David has worked with Government departments in Singapore, New South Wales and Queensland, many Universities and thousands of Schools in the USA, UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Additionally David is an advisor to the Canadian Educators Association, the Mastery Transcript Consortium in the USA and to Vega Schools in India. In 2009 he was awarded the OBE for services to education by Her Majesty the Queen.

David said “Colleges are operating within a very different world now where globalisation, disintermediation and automation are all combining to transform our understanding of what a ‘job’ looks like. By 2020 more than half of jobs will be freelance contract type work so we need to rethink education and training to prepare people for this. Digital technologies will continue to impact on our world of learning, democratising it, as we now live and learn largely in open online social networks and spaces. We are learning in ways we couldn’t imagine just ten years ago. It’s a complex, challenging, uncertain but exciting future and I am looking forward to connecting with colleagues in further education at Birmingham Metropolitan College on the 19th June to explore some of these themes.’

Jamie Smith, Executive Chairman of C-Learning said “We are thrilled and honoured to have secured David Price OBE as the keynote for the Further Education Good Practice Symposium this Summer. I will never forget the first time I read David’s book OPEN, I couldn’t put it down and shared it with my CEO at the time who shared my enthusiasm and we subsequently arranged to meet David to learn more about his work. In his book David explores so many of the salient themes impacting on education now and into the future, and does so with insight and personality that is both enriching and inspiring in equal measure. It’s not just a brilliant read, it’s an important one, and I am so pleased that those attending the event in June will get chance to both hear from David and to meet him.”

The event, hosted by Birmingham Metropolitan College and supported by C-Learning is open to staff working within further education. The symposium will explore themes around education technology and how education is transforming to align to the uncertain and rapidly changing requirements of the digital age. Additional presentations will reveal how leading educationalists are adapting to this change with impact and success, as well as discussing some of the new challenges.
