ILS students make their mark at skills competition

Independent Living Skills students from Gower College Swansea have participated in the Inclusive Skills competition at Newtown College.

Callum East, who is studying on the Introduction to Further Education (Life Skills) course, won the Gold medal in the Restaurant Services – Table Laying competition.

Siobhan Ashour, who is studying on the Work Preparation course, secured a Bronze medal for her work in the Food Preparation competition.

David Robins, who is also on the Work Preparation course, received a certificate for his participation in the Food Preparation competition.

Callum will now go forward to the WorldSkills UK, Inclusive Skills National Finals at the Birmingham NEC in November.

“This is the fifth year that ILS students have represented the College at the Inclusive Skills competitions,” says Curriculum Leader Michelle Williams. “We are all incredibly proud of Callum, Siobhan and David. All three were fantastic ambassadors for the College throughout the event. We are looking forward to November now and wish Callum all the best for the next exciting stage of the competition.”

“A special thank you must go to ILS lecturing staff Steven Lewis and Lisa Scally, and Hospitality and Catering Instructor Nicola Rees for all their hard work in supporting the learners, and also to Hospitality student Paige Jones who give up her own time to work with Callum prior to the competition.”
