Lords to publish report on Brexit and the EU’s Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 programmes

‘Horizon 2020′ and ‘Erasmus+’ are the 2014–2020 EU funding programmes for research and innovation and ‘lifelong learning’, including international mobility opportunities for young people to study, work or train abroad. The UK has received €5.7 billion (15.2%) of Horizon 2020 funding distributed so far, making it the second largest recipient of programme funding after Germany. Under Erasmus+, €677 million has been distributed to UK projects to date and the UK expects to receive €1 billion in total over the programme period.

In its report the Committee considers the implications of Brexit on UK participation in Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+ and how this might impact mobility opportunities for UK students and teachers, funding for UK research projects, and opportunities for UK organisations to collaborate with research and education partners in Europe.

Over the course the inquiry the Committee heard evidence from Erasmus+ UK National Agency, Universities UK, and the National Union of Students, as well as Chris Skidmore MP, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation For further information on the inquiry and its associated evidence please see the Committee’s webpage.
