From education to employment

Lord Baker backs Springpod’s Virtual STEM Careers Fair 2019

The Rt. Hon. Lord Baker of Dorking CH has announced his support for Springpod’s Virtual STEM Careers Fair happening in March 2019.

This week-long event that runs from 4th March 2019 to 8th March 2019 is organised by Springpod, the early-careers app that helps students discover career opportunities with STEM employers.

 Lord Baker said:

“The shortage of Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) talent has  reached a critical level. If our nation is to remain at the forefront of technical innovation, we need to ensure that young people consider a career in STEM.

“Employer Engagement is a key part of this mission, and I am confident that Springpod’s Virtual STEM Careers Fair is a powerful step in the right direction. This week of inspirational video broadcasts from a range of top STEM employers will inspire students by providing insights from professionals working at the forefront of technical innovation.

“As a former Secretary of State for Education and Science, I have seen first hand the impact that employers can have on young people’s career trajectories by engaging with them at an early age. A young person who has 4 or more encounters with the world of work while at school is 86% less likely to be not in education, employment or training (NEET) and on average will go on to earn 18% more than their peers who did not have such opportunities.

“Initiatives such as Springpod’s Virtual STEM Careers Fair will help students to realise that a career in STEM is financially rewarding, exciting and hugely beneficial to society.”

Featuring daily video broadcasts from leading employers such as Airbus, Roche, Atkins, Accenture, Jaguar Land Rover, BT and SSE, Springpod will showcase career stories from apprentices and industry insiders, while offering unique insights into the diversity of career paths in STEM.
