OfS announce new ‘What Works’ centre

Responding to the announcement of a new ‘What Works’ centre to help universities cut equality gaps, Alistair Jarvis, Chief Executive of Universities UK, said:

“UUK’s Social Mobility Advisory Group first recommended that an evidence and impact exchange be established back in 2016, so it’s excellent to see that this will now be put into practice.

“Universities know that disparities remain between different groups of students across the student lifecycle and they are working hard to achieve greater equality of opportunity through targeted investment and interventions set out in their Access & Participation Plans.

“A key challenge to making further progress has been the lack of access to evidence on what works. This exchange has the ability to provide this –  from improving understanding of how to work effectively with schools, through to what works in reducing the BME attainment gap and supporting successful graduate outcomes initiatives for all students. We look forward to engaging with the Exchange to ensure it supports universities to deliver further progress.”
