From education to employment

Barnsley College Students complete new-look apprenticeship

Barnsley College has become the first provider in the country to successfully support students through a new-look NCFE Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship programme.

Nine students have completed the Level 2 apprenticeship using the new end-point assessment (EPA) which has replaced continual assessment throughout the programme.

The EPA is designed to test whether each apprentice has gained certain skills, knowledge and behaviours during their studies.

The Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is designed for those who are currently, or wish to be, employed as Care Workers in residential or nursing homes, home care, day centres or a clinical healthcare setting.

Assessor Karen Fowler said: “I am very proud of each and every one of the students who worked so hard both during the programme and to complete the EPA. The new format of the programme was a step into the unknown for everyone but the students managed to overcome obstacles with the valuable support of our assessors and our Exams and IT Services departments.”
