From education to employment

Borders College Students inspired to develop their own personal brand

McGowan Marketing recently visited Borders College to talk to the current NC Business Administration students about how to develop their own personal brand.

Emily McGowan, a Chartered Marketer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, with 20 years’ experience, delivered the hour-long session, where she spoke to students about the importance of setting goals and understanding their own values.

The students spent their time participating in fun and informative smart board tasks and viewed YouTube videos, which highlighted how potential employers see them through social media channels. The students also learned how to positively promote themselves as a brand using social media to increase their own employment potential.

Emily commented:

“As part of our commitment to developing young people, and championing the marketing cause, we like to make the most of opportunities to speak to people about developing their own personal brand. We worked with the team at Borders College to deliver a session to the NC Business Administration Level 5 students. The students were great, really engaging and full of plans for their future. Lots of ambition there. We talked about goal setting and understanding their own values as part of developing their own personal brands. It was an excellent session and one we hope to be able to deliver again at Borders College”.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the session with Emily and hope to use what they learned as a progression in their studies and career paths.
