New cohort of young emerging leaders to meet in Berlin next month

WORLD INNOVATION SUMMIT FOR EDUCATION UNVEILS COHORT FOR NEW GLOBAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

2019-2020 edition of WISE Emerging Leaders to kick off in Berlin

Seventeen young men and women from 13 countries, representing diverse backgrounds and disciplines, have been selected to join the World Innovation Summit for Education’s (WISE) new global fellowship program: the WISE Emerging Leaders (WEL).

The Qatar Foundation initiative’s WEL program is a new global fellowship that aims to equip the next generation of systems leaders in education with the tools, skills, networks, and mindset they need to make a positive impact on their communities and engage in global dialogue on pressing issues in education.

Selected fellows aged 24-32 will participate in a series of collaborative and interactive modules on topics ranging from ethical leadership to social innovation, delivered by WISE and Ashoka – a global organization that identifies and invests in social entrepreneurs – to increase the impact of the fellows’ work and enable them to collaborate on key challenges.

Through the fellowship, WISE aims to support and elevate the work of promising education initiatives by developing young talent within these organizations. The fellows include young professionals from organizations that are part of the global WISE community, and social innovators actively engaged in delivering or designing education initiatives within their organization or networks.

“WEL is a new program that aims to enable innovation in education,” said Stavros N. Yiannouka, CEO of WISE. “Working directly with 17 young professionals nominated by their organizations, WISE will provide training and mentoring to these leaders as they develop and implement important education initiatives.
“The first cohort of WEL will welcome amongst others, young professionals from Camfed, Minerva Project, HundrEd, and Generation. Their organizations and WISE expect great things from them.”

The cohort will convene for an in-person residential session in Berlin, Germany, from April 21-30, 2019, where they will participate in an action-based leadership and educational development module. In addition to completing residential training and online modules, fellows will also contribute to their organizations by applying their new skills to projects identified by their organizations.
