From education to employment

Barnsley College’s Hair and Beauty students get inspired

Barnsley College’s Hair and Beauty department played host to a range of events to give students an insight into the industries they aspire to join.

As part of ‘Industry Week’, experts in hair and beauty were invited into the College to exhibit their products and talk about their careers. This included professionals such as Louisa Ashforth, La Skincare owner; Becky Stevenson, customer service advisor; Sherry Richardson, owner of Hats by Sherry; and Rose Dyson, Pura Cosmetics owner.

The week also included specialist workshops and competitions such as a nail art, plaiting and twisting, blow drying, foiling techniques, basic make-up and salon management. These workshops helped the students develop their skills within their chosen discipline.

Anita Wilkinson, Hair and Beauty Programme Manager at Barnsley College, organised the events within the department to help students on their way to getting job-ready. She said: “Industry Week has been a great success with some brilliant guest experts demonstrating their skills and explaining their careers.

“It’s brilliant to see professionals genuinely interested in inspiring the next generation of hair and beauty employees. The students who attended the sessions were thrilled at the variety of talks and workshops and found the week both educational and enjoyable.”
