Over 500 Barnsley pupils take to the race track

An event organised by Barnsley College will see over 500 pupils from Barnsley-based Primary Schools take to the race track to raise money for Race for Life, Cancer Research UK, on Wednesday 8 May, 10.00am to 2.30pm.

The event will take place at Dorothy Hyman Stadium in Cudworth. Students and staff from Barnsley College will be joined by pupils from Kexborough Primary School, Meadstead Primary Academy, St. Helen’s Primary Academy, Laithes Primary School, Churchfield Primary School and Birkwood Primary School.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer. Over the past 20 years, more than 8 million people have taken part in Race for Life, raising over £547million to fund the charity’s life-saving work.

Amanda Sowerby, Barnsley College Sports Maker and event organiser, said: “The day is shaping up to be a big interactive community event. We are hoping to mentally and physically prepare pupils to maintain good healthy habits for life.”
