Art students aim high for University places

Students at Gower College Swansea’s Llwyn y Bryn Campus are aiming high for university places, with some even following in the footsteps of Stella McCartney. They are all currently studying the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, while offers are coming in from specialist art colleges and top universities across the UK.

Four learners across the group of 32 have secured conditional places at UAL (University of Arts London) and at Central St Martins, which is one of the colleges under the UAL umbrella. UAL is ranked second in the world for art and design and one student has been offered to study for the famous womenswear course where the likes of Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen have studied.

James Makin is one of those students. He studied A Levels in Art and Design, Graphics and Media at Olchfa Comprehensive School and has been offered a place at UAL to study Fashion Design (Womenswear Technology).

Lucy De La Haye will be joining James at Central St Martins to study Graphic Design. Chloe Hill will be going to London College of Fashion to study a BA (Hons) in 3D Effects for Performance and Fashion, and James Thompson will be attending London College Communication to learn all about illustration.

Another student going onto further study is Ela Thomas Morgan who is staying in Wales with an offer from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She has been offered a place to study Design for Performance, where only 22 places are allocated. She has also been offered a place at the University of South Wales to study TV and Film Set Design. Ela also studied a Level 3 in Art and Design course at our Llwyn y Bryn Campus, and will be making a decision on the next steps soon.
