From education to employment

Dream jobs in Hull beauty industry are only a fingertip away

REAL jobs in the beauty industry are within fingertip reach of students in Hull with the opening of a new training academy.

The Indulgence Academy at Progress to Excellence Ltd has been created for learners to become highly skilled and confident to work in one of the fastest growing job sectors on the high street.

With more salons opening last year than any other type of independent business, there’s no sign of a slow-down in demand for beauty and grooming treatments, particularly in nail services and make-up.

Damian Burdin, Chief Executive at Progress to Excellence Ltd, explained: “It’s a unique situation where we have people whose dream is a job in the beauty industry – and there’s a huge market out there to fulfil their ambitions.

“The hair and beauty industry is currently worth £6.6 billion to the UK economy, there’s no sign of it slowing down and so the opportunities to achieve a great career working in a glamorous environment are endless.”

The Hull training centre in George Street, on the outskirts of the town centre, is running courses in nail services, nail technology and make-up artistry.

Damian continued: “Our students will be part of a training programme different to FE college-based courses. They will learn in a real workplace environment to make them industry-ready for employers in the beauty business.

“Our tutors are constantly working on new trends and, because of their vast training experience, we will be producing learners who are confident to take on any challenges facing them so they can take that next step in their career.

“But our training is not only about learning the techniques of the job and encouraging creativity. It’s also about equipping students with other skills that are vital when it comes to either securing employment or setting up in business themselves, things like communication and customer care.”

Hull Indulgence Academy is part of a growing number of beauty training academies at Progress to Excellence Ltd with other centres already established in Frome, Somerset, and in Birkenhead. Another centre due to open shortly in Blackburn.

The Diploma in Nail Technology Level 3, Diploma in Nail Services Level 3 and Diploma in Make-up Artistry Level 3 are all on offer at The Hull Indulgence Academy at Progress to Excellence Ltd.

For nail qualifications there are also optional units to study which include designing and creating nail art, air brush designs, enhancing nails with electric files and wraps. Make-up artistry students will learn how to do special effect make-up, face and body art, make-up application, fashion and photography and camouflage make-up.

Because of their part-time hours, courses are easy to fit around family commitments and are open to anyone over the age of 19. There is no upper age limit.

Courses are funded through an Advanced Learner Loan which, subject to eligibility, is available to individuals aged 19 and over who choose to study a Level 3 to Level 6 course.

It’s easy to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan and household income isn’t taken into account. There’s also no credit check or upper age limit.

The loan will not be paid back until income is over £25,725 a year. Once this threshold has been reached, the learner then only pays back 9p in every £1 of what’s earned above it.

Hull Indulgence Academy at Progress to Excellence Ltd, is now open at 85 George St, Hull HU1 3BN.
