Hull College Catering Students are Cooking up a Storm at Wessex Salon Culinaire

A team of Catering students competed against top southern colleges and industry professionals and returned with 26 medals.

Hull College Catering Department has been busy during the half term break by participating in the Wessex Salon Culinaire 2019, one of the UK’s largest live culinary competitions which were held at Brockenhurst College on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th May.

Seven learners who are enrolled on Level 2 Culinary Skills, Level 2 Professional Cookery (Adults) and Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma, competed across three days against some of the top colleges within in southern region, as well as industry experienced professional chefs.

This popular annual event was held in association with The Craft Guild of Chefs and is a fantastic platform for all chefs, especially for student chefs looking for their first taste of the competition experience.

The team went head to head in 26 categories of live competitions and returned with an impressive haul of 9 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Hull College has then bestowed two further awards; Best Competition College and Craft Guild Chefs Award for Outstanding Competition College within all 2019 competitions.

Supporting national skills competitions highlights the positive impact it has on learners by developing their skills and confidence.

The Catering team are a shining example of what can be achieved by studying at Hull College, as well as the dedication and hard work the tutors give to furthering their learner’s experiences and ensuring they are not only ready to compete but ready to enter life in the industry.
