Oxford University provides unique opportunity for Clarendon Sixth Form College students

Two students from Clarendon Sixth Form College are taking part in a prestigious study programme with Oxford University.

Thomas Neumann and Macy Hall, former Newman RC College and Harrytown Catholic High School students, have both been accepted onto the OxNet philosophy and world religions programme at the university.

OxNet is Oxford University’s widening participation organisation which aims to give talented and gifted students from underrepresented areas access to high quality, degree level study.

The philosophy and world religions programme is just one of OxNet’s initiatives and offers students studying at sixth form colleges the chance to experience the university first hand.

Thomas and Macy are currently participating in a series of seminars and study days which will culminate in a ‘summer school’ at Oxford University in August. This will involve a week long residential stay, research, an essay assignment and extracurricular activities.

Macy, said: “It’s been a great opportunity to take part in the programme. The seminars and tutorials have helped me to understand university study and it’s also developed my critical thinking skills a lot. It is hard work completing college work at the same time but I think it will pay off and I am enjoying the challenge.”

Participation in OxNet initiatives form part of Clarendon Sixth Form College’s ‘Futures’ programme. The ‘Futures’ programme places gifted students onto a bespoke learning framework which motivates success in A level subjects.
