UCL EDUCATE convenes international summit for #LondonEdTechWeek

The UCL EDUCATE programme is convening an international EdTech Summit for 70 companies representing 37 countries globally, kicking off London EdTech Week, on June 17.

The Future Ideas Summit will bring together EdTech founders, innovators, corporate executives, educationalists and investors from around the world to network, debate and look at how the technology landscape will evolve into the future.

Building on the pioneering work of the UCL EDUCATE programme in supporting startups to develop a research mindset, the aims of the Future Ideas Summit are to better understand different EdTech ecosystems around the world and to develop a common language relating to the impact of EdTech in the classroom.

The participants will include companies from the UCL EDUCATE programme as well as finalists of EdTechXGlobal’s Global SuperLeague. Among them will be UCL EDUCATE company Lyrical Kombat, which will represent the UK in the Global SuperLeague finals, after winning the semi-finals hosted by the EDUCATE programme, earlier this year.

Alison Clark-Wilson, UCL EDUCATE’s Principal Research Lead, said:

“We are delighted to be hosting the Future Ideas summit on behalf of EdTechXGlobal, bringing its SuperLeague finalists together with other innovators and developers to focus on the most important aspect of any EdTech – how to conduct appropriate research to understand if, when, why and how it ‘works’ for its users.

“The EDUCATE team will be challenging the start-ups to think hard about the efficacy for their technology – and, at the same time, learn more about how to gather the right sort of evidence to substantiate their impact claims.”

Michelle DuQuette, Head of Marketing & Partnerships at EdTechXGlobal, said:

“Collaborating with EDUCATE on the Future Ideas Summit is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate London EdTech Week and our long-standing partnership of connecting their dynamic ecosystem of entrepreneurs with the wider EdTechXGlobal learning community.

“We are excited to have Lyrical Kombat – winner of the EDUCATE ecosystem event last month – join the final Global Startup SuperLeague competition at EdTechXEurope where he will compete in a lightning-fast 90 minutes for the chance to be selected as the winner from 28 other companies from 25 countries.”

Prizes for the SuperLeague competitors include a package worth $50,000, legal services from Cooley, credits from Amazon Web Services, amplification to EdTechXGlobal’s worldwide network of 65,000 decision-makers, and a dedicated global PR campaign.

The Future Ideas Summit will be held at UCL EDUCATE’s headquarters at the Knowledge Lab, in London, and is being organised in partnership with EdTechxGlobal during London EdTech Week, which runs from 17-21 June.
