From education to employment

Seetec helps to bridge the digital skills gap #BridgingTheDigitalDivide

Twelve adults have successfully completed a course in King’s Lynn designed to develop their digital skills and confidence to help them find employment.

Designed and delivered by employment and skills specialist Seetec, the two-week Digital Skills Academy aimed to equip the learners with the ICT and social media skills to search and apply for jobs.

To mark the fourth national Employability Day this week, the group (pictured with Danine Staines and Laura Wilson from Seetec) were presented with their certificates for Functional ICT skills, Social Media for Job Prospecting, E-Safety and Personal Well-being.

Former fork-lift driver and dustman Andrew Sowerby, who moved to the King’s Lynn area from London two years ago, said the course had helped him to gain confidence. “The course is really good. I’ve used a computer before for gaming but I’ve learned a lot about the business side, such as using graphics.

“I never knew all the things I could do on the computer. The trainer takes the time to help each single person. She has the patience of an angel. Seetec has really helped me through a difficult time, they’ve pushed me and given me a lot of confidence.”

Seetec Tutor Sarah Checketts said the learners were all aged over 40 and lacked previous experience of using computers. “They have learned new skills and improved their knowledge to give them the confidence and skills to use ICT safely in their daily lives and to help them with the job search process.”

The theme of 2019’s Employability Day on 28 June, coordinated by the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA), is ‘Closing the gaps’, highlighting the efforts of organisations like Seetec which help to close employment gaps.

Seetec is one of the UK’s leading skills, employment and training providers, working with individuals and businesses to deliver tailored courses to upskill those searching for employment or seeking to progress in their careers.
