Hitachi Capital UK launches #apprenticeship scheme for school-leavers

Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC, a leading financial services company with over 35 years’ experience providing innovative finance solutions for consumers and businesses across the UK and Europe, today launches Gamechangers, a pioneering partnership with Visionpath to create exciting career opportunities for school-leavers from diverse social backgrounds.

Through a year-long programme combining career insight, interactive assessments and long-term career mentoring, Gamechangers will improve access for school-leavers whose location, background or circumstances mean they may not be aware of career opportunities in financial services.

Gamechangers will result in 20 young people being offered apprenticeships when they leave school in Summer 2020, across a variety of roles in locations including Leeds, Newbury, Staines, Telford and Trowbridge. All places are offered at Living Wage and carry recognised qualifications.

Commenting on the collaboration, Patrick Philpott, Managing Director at Visionpath said:

“We’re excited to be partnering with Hitachi Capital to create a pioneering programme giving young people a supportive pathway into careers in a sector they may have thought was out of reach. At Visionpath we believe factors like your socio-economic background or your postcode shouldn’t limit your future potential and with Gamechangers we’re ensuring young people from diverse backgrounds in Hitachi Capital’s communities can have the opportunity of a successful career in financial services.”

On the importance of a more socially-diverse workforce, Kiru Raguraman, Director of Employee & Customer Engagement at Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC:

“At Hitachi Capital, we believe in a world where everyone has equal access to opportunities and in our ability to make a difference in creating that world. Gamechangers is our contribution to addressing social mobility constraints in our communities and we are delighted to partner with Visionpath on this important programme. Through Gamechangers, we look forward to supporting and welcoming young people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to our organisation.”

Gamechangers launches in September 2019, working with Year 13 students in schools across Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC’s communities.
