Concorde lands in Barnsley thanks to college’s #VR tour

Travel and Tourism student trialling the new virtual reality tour.

Barnsley College Travel and Tourism students are now able to visit Concorde after the College’s Learning Technologies Unit and Travel and Tourism departments created a full 360° virtual reality tour.

The virtual reality tour will allow students the opportunity to gain knowledge of the Concorde aircraft as well as taking a tour of the plane from their classroom at any time. Concorde was the first supersonic passenger-carrying commercial airplane, built jointly by aircraft manufacturers in Great Britain and France.

The College worked closely with Manchester Airport Visitor Park staff to create a tour of the plane both internally and externally to enable students to be able to visually reflect on their visit to the airport and use the tour as a vital tool to aid revision.

Rebekah Morris, Travel and Tourism Curriculum Leader, said:

“Our courses are about engaging our students. We focus on ensuring our students gain industry relevant skills and knowledge and the 360° virtual reality tour is a way of enabling this.”

Rob Lea, eSystems Technologist, added:

“It’s been an educational experience to work closely with the Travel and Tourism students and it’s wonderful to see them grow in confidence and skills.

“All of our students will benefit from virtual reality whether they are studying dance, sport, construction or healthcare and early years and we’ll be working with departments to use digital technology in innovative ways to enhance student learning.”
