Wren Kitchens IT Academy Cohort Begin Journey to Success
A journey to a successful career began last week for Wren Kitchens graduates as they started the new IT Academy.
The number one kitchen retailer attracted applicants far and wide from across the world including Thailand as well as 20 different universities across the UK. Nine successful applicants have fledged the nest of education and landed a position in the IT Academy, as well as a permanent role within Wren’s industry-leading IT team.
Wren, the best place to work in the UK, continues to expand rapidly and it aims to double the capacity of its IT function over the next year to help continue to drive the success of the business.
Alex Redshaw, 22, from Middleton-on-the-Wolds studied Maths and Computer Science at Leeds Beckett University before joining Wren.
“I can see a future here at Wren – there are so many opportunities to climb the ladder and diversify into different roles,” said Wren Graduate Developer Alex.
“It’s great that I’m on an exciting journey with other graduates on the same path – we share ideas with each other and there’s great camaraderie.”
The programme involves tech training, immersion into Wren’s market-leading systems including virtual reality, cutting-edge web applications, Wren’s website and 3D kitchen planning software before finally working on real-life projects within the business.
Callum Harrison, 21, studied Computer Science at the University of Hull before landing a role with the IT Academy. He said: “The high-standards of training attracted me to work for Wren and so far, it’s lived up to my expectations and more.
“I’m confident I’ll gain some really good experience so it will stand me in good stead for a successful career in the industry.”
The second phase of the quarterly programme will see another group of PHP and JavaScript Graduate Developers start on 4th November 2019. Places are still available for this permanent role.
“It’s a really fun and diverse business to work for,” added Wren Graduate Developer, Kye Smith, 23, from Hull.
“I’ve done a lot of programming in my spare time so it’s great to be able to have the opportunity to develop software for such a large organisation.”
