Detailed guide: Get help to increase participation in advanced maths
The advanced mathematics support programme provides resources and support to improve teaching and increase participation in post-16 maths education.
What you can get
The advanced mathematics support programme (AMSP) offers support for:
- AS and A level maths
- further maths
- level 3 core maths
You can get:
- online and face-to-face continuing professional development (CPD)
- online teaching resources
- events and materials to promote further study of maths and STEM subjects
- tuition support for further maths students
- support for students preparing for university maths entrance tests
Who can join the programme
The programme is available to all state-funded schools and colleges in England.
Additional support is available for schools and colleges in priority areas. These are the government’s opportunity areas and areas of low participation in level 3 maths.
The opportunity areas are:
- Blackpool
- Bradford
- Derby
- Doncaster
- East Cambridgeshire and Fenland
- Hastings
- Ipswich
- Norwich
- Oldham
- Stoke-on-Trent
- West Somerset
- Yorkshire Coast
The areas of low participation are:
- Barking and Dagenham
- Blackburn with Darwen
- Halton
- Hartlepool
- Islington
- Kingston Upon Hull
- Knowsley
- Liverpool
- Manchester
- Middlesbrough
- Newcastle upon Tyne
- North East Lincolnshire
- Portsmouth
- Redcar and Cleveland
- Salford
- Sandwell
- Southampton
- Sunderland
- Tameside
- Thurrock
When it’s available
CPD courses and events take place throughout the year.
What it costs
Most support and resources are free. There is a cost for direct tuition. Some CPD is also chargeable, although state-funded schools and colleges may be able to reclaim the cost of this on completion.
Schools and colleges in priority areas may also be eligible to reclaim additional costs, such as travel and supply cover.
