From education to employment

Adult learners celebrate the successful completion of their Access to Higher Education #HE courses at East Sussex College Eastbourne

Students Access all areas

A graduation ceremony at Eastbourne Town Hall in July marked the end of a fast-paced, challenging and ultimately life-changing year of study. The mature students completed subject pathways including Medical Sciences, Combined Sciences, Teacher Education, Social Sciences and Humanities, Business and Law, and Nursing and Healthcare. They were joined by friends and family to celebrate their achievements.

Tutors delivered heartfelt speeches, reflecting on the journey learners had taken over the course of the year. Many of the students will now progress to universities throughout the UK to study a broad range of subjects including physiotherapy, pharmaceutical sciences, psychology, nursing, midwifery, primary education and law.

Rebecca Conroy, Principal of East Sussex College Eastbourne, gave a speech on the evening, acknowledging that the adult learners had taken on what is arguably one of the toughest programmes that exists within education. Many of them were required to balance their studies with family life, careers and the pressures associated with returning to study in a college environment. With many graduates achieving the highest possible grades, the efforts, drive and care for the learners provided by the teaching team was also praised highly.

Places are still available on the Access to HE programme starting this September, making progression to study at university a real possibility.
