From education to employment

Stockport Council’s Continuing Education Service announces corporate partnership with Society for Education and Training

Stockport Council’s Continuing Education Service has become the second local authority provider to become a corporate partner of the Society for Education and Training (SET). Staff there will now be welcomed as SET members and enjoy a valuable range of professional development opportunities.

The Society for Education and Training is the only professional membership body dedicated to teachers and trainers working in further education.

Announcing the partnership, Sean Burke of Stockport’s Continuing Education Service said:

“We are delighted to be able to work with SET to support our staff in their future development. As we welcome a number of newly qualified staff to the service it’s equally important that we continue to support their development. The investment we make in our staff reflects an ambition to be outstanding in all aspects of our learning offer, and specifically the benefit to our learners. We look forward to working with SET to this end.”

Martin Reid, Director of SET, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Stockport Council’s Continuing Education Service as a corporate partner of the Society for Education and Training. The support and resources we offer are a valuable investment for staff at any kind of provider institution across the Further Education and Training sector. This partnership recognises that.

“Becoming a corporate partner is a positive step that signals a commitment to high-quality development for staff and teaching for learners, and helps teaching staff strive for excellence in their professional journey.”

As SET members, teaching staff will:

  • have the opportunity to study for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and Advanced Teacher Status (ATS). SET is the only passport to achieving both QTLS and ATS. Those who attain ATS are now conferred Chartered Teacher status by the Chartered College of Teaching.
  • gain access to resources, training and teaching tools, research and expert views in further education
  • enjoy benefits, such as the Society for Education and Training’s online research library
  • be part of a professional community of 20,000 teachers and trainers in the education sector, with opportunities to share expertise and experience with their peers
  • receive copies of inTuition, the most widely read journal for practitioners working across further education, vocational teaching and training.
