Students at City of London Academy Islington celebrate GCSE results

Hard work and dedication has paid off for students at City of London Academy Islington (CoLAI) as they celebrate excellent GCSE results today (22/08).

64% of the Year 11 students at the Prebend Street school achievedEnglish and Mathematics GCSE at Level 4 and above.

One third of students achieved the highly regarded EBAC (English Baccalaureate) qualification, meaning that they achieved high grades in the most respected academic subjects.

The academy, which opened in September 2008 and celebrated its 10 year anniversary this year, was recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in April 2019.

* Yalin Chen achieved eight grade 9s and 2 grade 8s

* Jessica Kadiali achieved four grade 9s, two grade 8s and three grade 7s

Clare Verga, Executive Principal, said:

“I am delighted for our pupils and proud of what they have achieved this year.

“These results, including our recent Ofsted inspection, reflect the hard work and determination of all students and staff.”

In April this year Ofsted officers recognised the academy for being a school where “no child is left behind” and where “outcomes are outstanding and pupils’ progress is exceptional”.

The City of London Academy Islington is co-sponsored by the City of London Corporation and City, University of London.
