Performing arts is thriving at a Staffordshire school

Performing arts is certainly thriving at a Rugeley school after pupils clocked up a performance on yet another international city stage.

It comes after performing arts pupils from The Hart School in Rugeley travelled to the European city of Luxembourg to showcase their dance and drama talents on a series of open air stages.

The children aged 11-18, spanning from Year 7 up to 13, performed several public pieces – including one complete with sign language – for hundreds of people across three different city centre towns.

Pupils delivering national and international performances

It is the latest high-profile performing arts production from pupils from The Hart School, which has also included performing at Silverstone Racing Circuit on Formula 1 qualifying day, at Disney World in Florida, and other European cities like Berlin.

Principal Chris Keen said:

“It’s always great to take the excellent performance skills of our talented students at The Hart School out of the classroom and share these experiences with the public – and not just on a regional or national stage but internationally too.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer a wide array of extra-curricular activities for our pupils, including for our growing performing arts offer, to not only develop our children’s creativity but to also boost their self-confidence across the board as we prepare them for life after school.”

Creative offer is expanding

Performing arts is proving so popular at the Penkridge Bank Road school, which is rated as good by Ofsted, that it has expanded its offer to include Level 3 dance in its Sixth Form.

The school’s impressive and ever-growing extra-curricular offer was highlighted by Ofsted during its 2018 inspection.
