WCG receives national wellbeing recognition for support of staff

A leading group of local colleges has received national recognition for its work in supporting the wellbeing of its staff.

WCG (formerly Warwickshire College Group) has been awarded the Workplace Wellbeing Charter and achieved excellence in four categories.

The Workplace Wellbeing Charter accreditation recognises a workplace’s commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of those who work there, as well as improving their lives.

It is a voluntary accreditation available for all public, private and voluntary sector organisations in the UK, managed by independent charity Health@Work Consultancy Services.

The accreditation marks the second time WCG has received the standard of ‘excellence’ in any of the eight standards, achieving the highest award in leadership, absence management, health & safety and its smoking policy.

Assessors conducted three assessment stages before awarding the accreditation, which included a review of evidence, interviews with employees and finally a tour of the site.

It comes following the introduction of a wider wellbeing strategy across the college group.

Jo Hodgson, Head of HR at WCG, said:

“”We’re very proud to have received this accreditation and it is recognition for the hard work WCG has put into supporting the wellbeing of its staff.

“Angela Joyce, the group’s CEO, is a champion of wellbeing in the workplace and the HR team continues to lead on developing and researching proactive wellbeing practices to further benefit staff.

“This proactive approach to employee wellbeing has led to us receiving the Workplace Wellbeing Charter. There is always room to improve but this accreditation is a great start and we will continue to build on and improve health and wellbeing provision at our colleges.”
