From education to employment

Customer service is their ‘stock-in-trade’

Two Apprentice Auctioneers have recently successfully completed their Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service with Borders College Business Development Unit (BDU).

Andrew Hutcheson and Cameron Robertson, both from Harrison & Hetherington Farmstock Auctioneers, Brokers & Valuers, based in Carlisle, have been working to complete their SVQ in Customer Service over the past year whilst working with the company. Andrew is based at The Mart in St Boswells, while Cameron is based at the Lockerbie Mart. Both work with farmers, mainly within the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway regions.

Borders College Assessor Susan Mason, who worked with both candidates, congratulated Andrew and Cameron on completing their course and was pleased to hear Cameron say:

“It was a good wee course and I really did learn a lot.”

Susan was surprised at what she also learned about the farming industry, as it was not the usual area in which she delivered customer service. Susan said:

“It was extremely interesting for me and I learned a lot from them too. It reminds us all that good customer service is important for business in whatever sector you work in.”
