Ensuring a nutritious breakfast for children

Today, Wednesday 25 September, breakfast cereal manufacturer Kellogg’s published a survey that suggests children are displaying behaviour issues at school because they are hungry. The survey questioned 1,000 primary and secondary school teachers in September 2019. There has been coverage on this from the Independent, the Mirror, the Sun, the Star and the Metro.

A Department for Education spokesperson said:

We are investing up to £26m in our national schools breakfast club programme across 1,700 schools and provide free school meals for 1.3 million of the country’s most disadvantaged children.

Regardless of external factors, schools should be safe and disciplined environments for both pupils and teachers. We recently announced a £10 million investment to establish behaviour hubs so that schools with a track record of effectively managing pupils’ behaviour can share what works with schools that need it.
