From education to employment

Gower College Swansea’s ambitious plans for Sketty Hall given green light

Gower College Swansea’s vision to redevelop Sketty Hall as a Business School will proceed following a successful bid for capital funding from Welsh Government.

The funding – made available via the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme – will allow for the ambitious renovation plans, which include brand new high-tech teaching rooms, a social space, coffee bar and library, to become a reality.

In a separate positive development, the College has also received ‘listed building consent’ status from Swansea Council which means the refurbishment can begin as soon as possible.

Sketty Hall, a Grade II listed building nestled in beautiful grounds close to Singleton Park, will be home to a wide range of professional business and management courses, higher-level qualifications, apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, all delivered by the College.

“We are delighted that Welsh Government has committed funding towards this exciting project and we now look forward to getting started,” says Paul Kift, Gower College Swansea’s Director of Skills and Business Development.

“The Sketty Hall Business School will enhance the College’s existing portfolio, ensuring that we continue to deliver the skills that individuals and employers in our region require. We are committed to delivering a renovation project that is sensitive to the status of this famous historical building whilst also providing our students with an inspirational learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities.”

Sketty Hall, which has formed part of the College’s estate since 1994, will reopen its doors to students in spring 2020.
