Wear it Pink

Brecon Beacons College students took part in the Wear it Pink Day (October 18). This saw the students and staff wear an item of clothing with pink in it as well as taking part in activities such as nail painting, cake sales, lucky dips and raffles. Pink slushies and candy floss were also being served as part of the event which was held to raise money for breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and since the first wear, it pink event held in 2002 an outstanding £33M has been raised.

The organiser of the day, Gateways Lecturer Paul Evans says: “It was really great to see the whole Brecon Beacons campus supporting Wear it Pink Breast Campus Awareness Day because one in eight of women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.”

With support from students and staff, Brecon Beacons College made £241. Breast Cancer Now’s wear it pink day is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. Taking place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, thousands of amazing people will wear it pink in their communities, schools or workplaces for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now.

Paul goes onto say: “The Gateway students worked tirelessly on the cake stall, selling raffle tickets and other fundraising activities throughout the day and the weeks preceding making wall displays and posters for the event. They have enhanced their enterprise, sales and marketing skills by organising the event which will contribute to their qualification.”
