Former Barnsley College Travel and Tourism student, Macauley Wake, landed a job with Virgin Atlantic after successfully completing his Level 3 Travel and Tourism course.

Macauley came to the College as an inspirational speaker to talk about his career in Cabin Crew for Virgin Atlantic and give an insight into working for an established airline. Students got a chance to ask Macauley questions related to training, experience and opportunities.

The former student had to undergo an intense six-week training programme. His duties are to ensure that customers receive an in-flight service that meets and exceeds their expectations, by providing a high level of customer care. He has travelled to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Las Vegas, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Johannesburg.

Macauley said: “Studying at Barnsley College has prepared me for the process of gaining employment in the travel and tourism industry. I enjoyed how interactive the classes were and the topics we studied which helped me in the interview process. I would 100% recommend the College as the tutors are amazing and the facilities are second to none.”

Rebekah Morris, Travel and Tourism Curriculum Leader, added: “I’m always proud to see our former students successfully gain employment. Macauley is very talented and has developed a passion for the travel and tourism industry which has resulted in him securing a job with a leading airline.”
