South Eastern Regional College Presented with Duke of Edinburgh Award Operating Licence

HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, presents South Eastern Regional College’s John Nixon and Michelle Hickland, with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Operating Licence at Hillsborough Castle.

Representatives from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently attended Hillsborough Castle for an official presentation of a Duke of Edinburgh Award Operating Licence by, HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex.

SERC’s John Nixon and Michelle Hickland attended the presentation and spoke briefly to The Earl of Wessex about SERC’s inaugural year as a Licensed Organisation for the Duke of Edinburgh/Gaisce Joint Award.

Michelle Hickland, Deputy Head of School for Construction, Engineering Services and Skills for Work said,

“One hundred and seventy-three (173) students on entry level and level 1 programmes at SERC achieved part or all of the Duke of Edinburgh/Gaisce Joint Award during 2018/19.   We are delighted with their success, poignant because many of these students had specific barriers to learning.

“Offering the Duke of Edinburgh/Gaisce Joint Award is a new venture for SERC which will greatly benefit all the students who take part. Our plan is not to open up the Award to all students in the College through Open Centres at each of our four main campuses.”

South Eastern Regional College are hosting a full-time open evening 4.00pm – 7.00pm on Wednesday 13 November at Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards Campuses.
