Clarendon Sixth Form College students light up Tameside

Art students at Clarendon Sixth Form College are preparing to take part in the sixth annual Tameside Lantern Parade with their own handmade creations.

The Tameside Lantern Parade, on Saturday 16th November in Stalybridge, will include live music, dances and the parade itself.

To create their unique lanterns for the parade, students worked with Lesley Bardsley, arts and engagement officer from Tameside Council. She gave the students tips on how to construct the lanterns using wood and cloth. Each student came up with a design for the project.

Lesley, said: “It is nice to work with young people who have creative and interesting ideas. Each year they come up with new designs and they are always very impressive. I can’t wait to see them during the parade and hopefully the students will join us on the day. Thank you to the college for getting involved.”

Ruth James, head of department for creative studies at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “Tameside Council has worked with our art students for several years now to construct lanterns for the parade. The students love to get involved in making them and they look fantastic when they are lit up. The techniques they are learning can also be used in other areas of their work, which is a brilliant. Thank you to Lesley for taking the time to work with the students.”
