Green Fingers for Brecon Beacons College Horticulture students

Brecon Beacons College Horticulture Level 1 and 2 students visited Ralph Court Gardens in Herefordshire as a part of an educational trip.

The students visited the grounds, home to twelve gardens with different themes. Within the garden, you can move from Italy to Africa with the country-themed spaces. The three-acre garden allowed students to explore and find inspiration for their course with a specific module being garden design.

Lecturer Simon Penn said: “Our course provides an opportunity to widen the classroom to the outdoors. The students are able to see a broad range of beautiful gardens and inspire the learners.”

Within the course, which can be studied at the Brecon Beacons College you can learn the basics of sowing seeds to taking cuttings from plants and learning how to maintain a wide range of plants and look after species.

Brittany a student who visited the gardens says: “My favourite part about the trip was the Alice and Wonderland themed garden as well as the pirate ship.”

With Michael a fellow student adding: “It’s important that we can learn outside of the classroom, and that we are able to learn about the different care needed for the gardens.”
