From education to employment

Sunderland College named top college in the North East

A new league table has named Sunderland College as the top college in the region.North East region.

Sunderland College tops the 2019 NICDEX league table for best overall college in the North East. The league table is based on robust data from the Department for Education.

Colleges were judged on four key performance measures comprising:

  1. Learner satisfaction
  2. Employer satisfaction
  3. Positive progression of 16 to 18-year-olds, and
  4. Progression of adults into employment.

The individual measures were combined to gain an overall average point score and Sunderland College scored higher than any other college in the North East.

Judith Quinn, Interim Deputy Principal of Curriculum at Sunderland College, said:

“I’m extremely proud that Sunderland College has been recognised as the top performing college in the North East. Our staff, students and employer partners all work together towards a vision of excellence and our culture of strong values create a positive and inspiring environment.

“I am sincerely grateful to the dedication and passion of our people, who transform lives through education and training and make Sunderland College the leading college it is today.”

The announcement follows the college being crowned BTEC College of the Year in the summer by Pearson, the UK’s largest awarding organisation.

Since its merger with Northumberland College in March this year, Sunderland College (which includes Hartlepool Sixth Form), is part of Education Partnership North East, one of the largest college groups in the country.

Ellen Thinnesen, Chief Executive of Education Partnership North East, said:

“This prestigious accolade is testimony to the hard work of our people and valued partners and the continued journey of excellence at Sunderland College, with a clear and ambitious vision to be the best.”
