This year Prospects Events has given 97,048 visitors and 1,312 exhibitors the opportunity to explore future careers, network with businesses, access resources and attend various seminars and talks on a variety of subjects relating to careers, jobs, education, skills, training, apprenticeships and recruitment.

By working with a wide variety of partners and sponsors, Prospects Events has successfully delivered 29 events across the whole of the United Kingdom, with high profile visits from a number of VIPs including the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, Jamie Hepburn MSP, Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills, and the North of Tyne Mayor, Jamie Driscoll.

The majority of visitors (92,599) attended one of the 13 highly interactive careers, jobs, skills and apprenticeship events that Prospects Events organise. These included the Heathrow Jobs and Careers Fair, five Skills England events, two SkillsCymru events, three Skills Scotland events, Skills Northern Ireland and Skills London.

Visitors to the series of skills events were made up of young people aged 14-24, teachers and careers advisers and the parents and guardians of young people on the precipice of making decisions about the career path they want to follow.

At these events, visitors can get really hands-on with different career options to explore the skills they might need to be ready for the world of work. On average, 48% of young people said they were unsure about their future prior to attending a skills event which reduced to 20% after taking part in the events.

In addition to events for young people and the people who influence them, Prospects Events also organise the National Career Guidance Shows. These events were visited by 2,397 professionals in 2019, including careers advisers, coaches and teachers, enterprise co-ordinators, youth justice workers and staff from Job Centre Plus.

The Prospects Events team were responsible for organising a number of events for high profile clients this year including London First, Heathrow and the Employee Ownership Association (EOA). In November, the EOA held their annual two-day conference and awards dinner which was attended by 715 delegates.

The team also organised ten business summits for Heathrow across the country, with a flagship event at Heathrow in November. These ten events attracted 1,337 visitors, who took part in “Meet the Buyer” appointments which allow small businesses to meet Heathrow suppliers in a speed networking environment.

Some feedback about the 2019 events

“A great opportunity to meet students and tell them about opportunities for the future with Vision Express.” Exhibitor at Skills North West

“I had an amazing experience as I got to speak to a lovely group of people. I was able to talk about my future and my career path I would like to be a counselor or social worker after I complete my GCSEs.  I spoke to a woman in the health and social area who is a social worker and she gave me great advice on what to do with my future.” Young person at Skills Northern Ireland

“I would absolutely recommend other parents to attend because both parents and children are exposed to so many different opportunities, and have the opportunity to ask anything they would like to know regarding different sectors.” Parent/carer at Skills London

“A very well organised event as always. It’s great to have so many employers, training providers and education establishments under one roof. Our pupils have had meaningful interactions with the exhibitors and formed useful contacts.” Group leader at SkillsCymru

“Excellent event and the support and prep beforehand was excellent – right down to providing pre-written social media posts with hashtags to promote the event – thanks!” Exhibitor at Skills Scotland
