Barton Peveril Celebrate School Artists in Annual Competition

@BartonPeveril Sixth Form College has successfully run its Schools Art Competition for the second consecutive year, receiving 240 entries from pupils in 33 of the county’s schools.

The competition was initially open to pupils in Years 9, 10, and 11 but was soon opened to all Secondary School year groups, due to popular demand. Entries were placed into two categories, a Years 7 and 8 category and a Year 9, 10, and 11 category.

For the competition, which now runs annually, pupils were required to submit a photo of their best piece of artwork and could submit work created either in class or for fun at home. The best entries were showcased in an online exhibition, where the winners and runners up were announced.

The winner of the Years 7 and 8 category was Year 7 King Edward VI School Max Henderson. Year 7 Thornden School pupil Isabelle Mugford and Year 8 Upper Shirley High School pupil Isla Waller-Gutierrez were named as runners up.

The winner of the Years 9, 10, and 11 category was Year 11 Brookfield Community School pupil Aaliyah Arkell. Year 9 pupil Bella Edwards, also a Brookfield Community School pupil, and Year 11 Regents Park Community College pupil Thomas Eves were the runners up in this category.

Each of the winners and runners up received an Amazon Gift Card to reward them for their success.

Speaking on the entries this year, Barton Peveril Director of Art, Lynne Milton, said:

“We are delighted with the response to this year’s competition. The entries are ambitious and diverse, ranging from traditional media such as painting and drawing, to collage, photography and digital tablet drawing. The winner in the Years 7 and 8 category has produced a very accomplished, sensitive and skillful painting. The winner in the Years 9, 10, and 11 category has demonstrated very confident use of media and skillful drawing in their piece.”
