Barnsley College’s Wigfield Farm undergoes makeover

Wigfield Farm @BarnsleyCollege, one of Barnsley’s favourite family attractions, has undergone refurbishment, making for an enhanced student and visitor experience.

Between November 2019 and February 2020, severe winter flooding occurred across the country mainly affecting Yorkshire and the Humber. This resulted in serious damage to the property and facilities on the farm.

The project saw improvements being made to the playground, resurfaced paths, and new and improved animal enclosures, as well installing measures to ensure the site is COVID-19 safe.

When the Farm re-opens students will be able to experience the improvements themselves as well as use the already first-class facilities including over 60 species of animals, commercial glass houses and polytunnels to enable them to gain industry experience.

Peter Wood, Land Based Industries Head of Department at Barnsley College, said:

“I’m delighted the farm has been given a new look and it has its own character and appeal. We have taken our time to make sure our students continue to learn in top quality facilities when they join the College this September.”
