Barnsley College students will benefit from superb facilities at the redeveloped The Fleets campus, which has undergone a dramatic makeover.

The Fleets campus, which houses Foundation Learning students, has seen the addition of a virtual reality learning area which will be used for immersive learning and augmented reality activities, including virtual visits to global places of interest such as the Egyptian pyramids and rainforests in different countries. The campus also has a training kitchen, new classrooms and modern areas in which students can work outside classes.

The College’s Foundation Learning programme includes an individualised curriculum designed to work on key knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress to further education or employment.

Staff work with students to offer all the support and skills to help them make the next step towards their chosen destination. Students will take part in vocational course taster sessions at the College in subjects including Art, Catering and Hospitality, Construction, Engineering, Media and Sport to assist them in this process.

Previous students are now studying Animal Care, Business and a range of Level 2 programmes in other subjects at the College. Others have moved on to destinations including full time employment.

Nicola Thomson-Dewey, Head of Foundation Learning, said: “I am thrilled our Foundation Learning students have this amazing space to learn, grow and prepare for their next steps in College.

“Our new, modern and informal learning environments have been designed and created to allow students to be able to work in high quality spaces and to give them a sense of pride and importance in their very own building. Students are enjoying their new space and have commented how welcoming it is.”
