Fife College welcomes decision to keep campuses open

@FifeCollege has welcomed that college campuses are to be kept open under the new Coronavirus restrictions announced this week.

The Scottish Government are introducing a series of measures from 6pm tonight that will be in place until the 25th of October, aimed at curbing the increased spread of the virus.

But in a letter to colleges and universities, Minister for Further Education and Higher Education Richard Lochhead confirmed that they will be allowed to remain open with blended learning in place.

Although the majority of students have been learning from home, many have been able to attend classes at one of the College’s five campuses across Fife.

And Chief Operating Officer at Fife College, Sue Reekie, said that allowing these students continued access to classrooms meant that lecturers would be able to deliver the best possible learning experience.  

Sue Reekie commented;

 “We’re pleased that we’ll be able to keep our campuses open during this period, and maintain the blended learning model we have in place.

“Since our return at the start of this academic year, we have welcomed the majority of our Further Education students and commercial clients back on campus, and we look forward to welcoming a number of our Higher Education students back after our October break.

“Our main goal is always to provide the best possible learning experience for our students, and allowing them to access campus facilities where necessary enables us to do this.

“The College already has all of the provisions required by the Scottish Government in place to ensure that we provide as safe a learning environment as possible.

“And we’ll continue to follow the strict guidelines we have implemented to limit the spread of the virus and deal swiftly and efficiently with any cases that do emerge.”
