The Education and Training Foundation (@E_T_Foundation) has launched a new support programme for individuals who have become senior managers in the Further Education and Training sector in the last 18 months.

The ‘New to Senior Leadership’ programme will clarify the expectations of the role and develop individuals’ skills, knowledge and behaviours. It will emphasise practical application to the real challenges faced by new senior leaders. Underpinned by the FE Leadership Excellence Framework and the ETF Model for Professional Learning and Development, it will address themes including relationship management, strategic decision making, negotiation and corporate responsibility.

The programme will develop participants by:

  • Building self-awareness
  • Developing reflective practice
  • Nurturing understanding of systems leadership
  • Encouraging the design of creative solutions to current problems
  • Building leadership capability and confidence.

It is being delivered on behalf of the ETF by the Birmingham Leadership Institute at the University of Birmingham.

All applicants must complete the detailed application form, having already obtained support from an organisational sponsor and identified a work-based project or focus for application of the learning. Applications will be reviewed before candidates are accepted onto the programme. Further details and the application form can be accessed on the programme page on the ETF website.

To ensure a high-quality experience, only 50 candidates, organised in two cohorts, will be able to undertake the programme before the end of March 2021. The deadline for applications for the first cohort is 9 November 2020.

The new programme is the most recent addition to the ETF’s range of support for leadership, which also includes programmes for current and aspiring Principals/CEOs, Chief Financial Officers, middle leaders, Chairs of Boards and Governors.
