Barnsley College launches new training course with American tech giant

@BarnsleyCollege have become the first college in the UK to offer Extreme Academy Live – a new initiative from Extreme Networks, a cloud-driven networking company based in San Jose, California. The American tech giants are committed to narrowing the digital divide, which matches the College’s own commitment to addressing the digital skills gap and digital poverty.

Extreme Academy Live is an academic curriculum designed to educate aspiring Information Technology (IT) professionals on networking, security, and cloud fundamentals, as well as machine learning and artificial intelligence. Students who complete the courses can earn key accreditations and certifications, including an Extreme Networks Associate-level qualification.

Barnsley College’s teaching staff will undergo training that will equip them with the skills and knowledge to deliver the Extreme Academy Live syllabus in the New Year.

The College’s newly renovated SciTech Digital Innovation Hub features an Extreme Network classroom packed with their resources ready for use by the first cohort of students who enrol onto the programme.

By completing the programme, students will not only be fully trained to use Extreme Networks’ technology but will also have the ability to use their transferable skills earned on other equipment.

Azhar Iqbal, Director of IT at Barnsley College, said: “With the past year seeing the acceleration of digital transformation for businesses across the world, we recognise just how important it is to continue providing our students with access to advanced technology training so that they can succeed in the future job market. Having already added an Extreme Academy classroom in our SciTech Digital Innovation Hub, we are now actively encouraging our students to look to Extreme’s new initiative, Extreme Academy Live, so they can receive additional industry certification to further develop their networking skills.”
