Newbury College Catering students serve up festive treats

Professional Catering Students @NewburyCollege have been cooking up a storm, despite the covid-19 restrictions preventing the normal Christmas Dinner lunch service.

This time of year, The Restaurant at the College is usually fully booked for Christmas lunch service, with catering students and staff in a festive buzz serving platters of turkey and all the trimmings to local community customers. The preparation, cooking and serving of these meals not only brings joy to many but supports the students with vital work experience as they prepare to become chefs and hospitality specialists.

The restrictions and impact of COVID-19 have meant that the hospitality industry has had to adapt significantly, and the catering team at Newbury College has diversified their Christmas offer and enabled the students to showcase their culinary delights which are both visually appealing and delicious.

The range, entitled ā€˜Christmas Delightsā€™ included a selection of savoury and sweet treats such as Chicken & Liver Pate with apple and brandy, Potted Shrimps with cayenne and lemon, Chocolate and Passionfruit Yule Log, Gingerbread Houses & Trees, Truffles, Macaron Snowmen, Chocolate bars and more. Staff and students were able to pre-order via The Restaurant and purchase the packed delights from The Street CafĆ©.

Rachael Elsey, Head of Department and Learning commented:

ā€œI would like to thank the catering team for their hard work and inspiration and the adaptations they have made which have enabled the students to demonstrate their skills this festive season.”

“We are looking forward to a time that we can welcome the community once again to enjoy dining with us at The Restaurant.ā€
